On the birth anniversary of late Punjabi rapper Sidhu Moosewala, three previously unreleased tracks — 008, Take Notes, and Neal — were officially released on his YouTube channel and Spotify. The tracks are part of a posthumous mixtape titled Moose Print and feature production by The Kidd, Mrxci, Jay B Singh, and Sidhu himself.
The artist’s popularity has endured more than two years after his death, as the three tracks collectively surpassed 7.8 million views on YouTube, within hours. The release sparked a wave across social media, with fans flooding the comment sections to celebrate Moosewala’s legacy.
Born Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, Moosewala was shot and killed in Mansa district, Punjab, in May 2022. Canadian gangster Goldy Brar, along with a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, claimed responsibility for the attack. Since then, several of Sidhu’s posthumous works have been released, drawing both critical and commercial attention.
The timing of the song drop coincided with the release of the first two episodes of a BBC documentary that explores Sidhu’s rise to fame and the events leading up to his murder. However, the documentary has been met with legal pushback from Sidhu’s father, Balkaur Singh, who alleged that the BBC used his son’s story and likeness without consent. Singh’s legal team also expressed concerns that the content might interfere with the ongoing investigation into Sidhu’s killing.
The BBC had planned a screening of the documentary in Mumbai but pulled it at the last minute following the controversy. Instead, the episodes were quietly uploaded to YouTube. A court hearing to address the legal dispute is scheduled for June 12.
