Action Taken Against Ranya Rao’s Father in Gold Smuggling Case; DGP Ramachandra Rao Sent on Compulsory Leave

Date:

Actress Ranya Rao is currently in custody in connection with a gold smuggling case. Amid this, her stepfather, DGP Ramachandra Rao, has been placed on compulsory leave. This decision was taken just days after Ranya Rao’s arrest. An official order regarding the leave of Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation’s Director General of Police, Ramachandra Rao, was issued this evening.

Father of Ranya Rao Sent on Compulsory Leave

Ranya Rao’s bail plea was earlier rejected by the Economic Offenses Court. The actress, who is a well-known name in the Kannada film industry, was denied bail on Friday in connection with the gold smuggling case.

In a major development, DGP-ranked officer and stepfather of the accused actress, Ramachandra Rao, has been sent on compulsory leave. This decision followed Ranya Rao’s arrest and was officially announced on Saturday.

Order Issued on Saturday

The order regarding Ramachandra Rao’s leave was released this evening by the authorities, although no specific reason has been mentioned in the official statement.

At the beginning of this month, actress Ranya Rao was arrested at Bengaluru International Airport while returning from Dubai. During the investigation, officials recovered 14.8 kg of gold from her possession.

Bail Plea Rejected

On Friday, the Economic Offenses Court rejected Ranya Rao’s bail plea. She was arrested on March 3 at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru while carrying 14 kg of gold bars worth ₹12.56 crore. Serious charges have been filed against her in this case.

Meanwhile, another accused in the case, Tarun Konduru, has also filed a bail plea. The court is set to hear his petition on Saturday at 3 PM. With Ranya Rao’s bail being denied, the upcoming decision on Tarun Konduru’s plea is expected to be significant.

Actress Alleges Mistreatment

Ranya Rao has alleged that she was mistreated in custody and falsely implicated in the high-profile gold smuggling case. In a letter addressed to the Additional Director General (ADG) of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), she claimed that she was directly arrested from the aircraft itself.

She further accused the investigating agency of providing incorrect information, stating that she was arrested from the airport terminal, which she claims is untrue.
