Bangladesh is once again in the grip of political turmoil as student leaders have announced the formation of a new political party. The announcement is expected to be made on Friday at 3 PM (Bangladesh time). This development comes amid growing unrest, with Nahid Islam, an advisor to the interim government led by Mohammad Yunus, resigning from his position. Nahid Islam served as the Information Advisor in Yunis’s cabinet. Meanwhile, the Chief of Army Staff has expressed concern over the deteriorating political situation in the country.

Key Highlights:

  1. Students to Announce New Political Party on Friday at 3 PM: The student leaders, who played a pivotal role in the ousting of Sheikh Hasina’s government, are now set to form their own political party.
  2. Internal Tensions Rise Among Leaders: The political climate in Bangladesh has become increasingly volatile, with internal conflicts among leaders escalating.

Political Upheaval in Bangladesh

Bangladesh is witnessing significant political unrest. The student leaders, who were instrumental in the downfall of Sheikh Hasina’s government, have now decided to enter the political arena by forming their own party. Sources suggest that the formal announcement of the new party could come within the next few days.

Nahid Islam, who served as the Information Advisor in Mohammad Yunus’s interim government, resigned from his post on Tuesday. His resignation has added to the growing instability in the country.

According to media reports, the announcement of the new party will be made on Friday at 3 PM (Bangladesh time). Sarjis Alam, the chief organizer of the Ethnic Citizens’ Committee, confirmed the formation of the party during a press conference on Monday evening.

Army Chief Expresses Concern

The internal strife among political leaders has raised alarms, prompting the Chief of Army Staff, General Wakar-Uz-Zaman, to issue a stern warning. He emphasized that the ongoing conflicts among leaders are undermining the country’s law and order.

General Wakar-Uz-Zaman stated, “There are several reasons for the deterioration of law and order in the country. The primary reason is that we are too busy fighting among ourselves. If these differences are not resolved, the situation will worsen, and the sovereignty of the nation will be at risk. I am issuing a warning to all leaders. The constant blame game among leaders is creating an environment that allows disruptive elements to thrive.”

He further clarified that his warning was not driven by any personal agenda but was solely aimed at restoring peace and stability in the country.

Student Protests and the Fall of Sheikh Hasina’s Government

Last year, widespread student protests erupted across Bangladesh demanding the abolition of job quotas in government employment. The protests turned violent, resulting in the deaths of over 1,200 people. The student-led movement not only led to the collapse of Sheikh Hasina’s government but also forced her and her family to seek refuge in India.

When Will Elections Be Held in Bangladesh?

Mohammad Yunus, the chief advisor of Bangladesh’s interim government, has already clarified that he has no interest in contesting elections. The question of when elections will be held remains uncertain. While Yunus has hinted that elections could take place by the end of 2025, political analysts believe that the emergence of a youth-led party could significantly alter the country’s political landscape.

The formation of this new party, led by students and young activists, could bring a fresh dynamic to Bangladesh’s politics, potentially reshaping its future trajectory. However, the current instability and internal conflicts among leaders continue to pose significant challenges to the nation’s stability.
